Sung-Im Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea. She started playing the piano at the age of seven, initially practising on a keyboard she drew herself in a sketch book. Two years later she won first prize at a national piano competition. By the age of sixteen, she performed as a soloist with the Seoul National Philharmonic Orchestra.
She went on to win the Eum Ak Chun Chu and Joong-Ang competitions, amongst the most prestigious in Korea. Prizes in international competitions in the USA and the UK followed. Most recently she won the 7th Haverhill Sinfonia Soloist competition and has recorded for BBC Radio.
She obtained her first degree from Kyung-Won University, followed by postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music. She has recently moved from Dallas to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
